INITIAL THOUGHTS 2011

CHARLEMAGNE here.  I’m a new writer here at Foxtrot and I find the tendency to capitalize every word counter-productive (to the chagrin of my fellow writers).

I have a few points on the races so far. We promise ENDORSEMENTS in a few weeks.

President – I personally know Michael Moll and he seems like a well-spoken guy but he will have to up the ante against Jeremy McElroy.  Omar Shaban, the underdog 3rd candidate and active member of the SJC, hates Canada.

VP Administration – Mike Silley has an interesting track record; we don’t know Kathy Yan Li; Gordon Katic has been endorsed by Tim Chu already.  So, you do the math.

VP External – Katie Tyson and Mitch Wright are the front-runners in this one. Looking at past AUS and AMS voting records, I see that Tyson’s voting patterns are more or less consistent with some anomalies.  Wright is the current AVPX and has done his job well. Rory Breasail, the 3rd candidate, is a Knollie.

VP Academic and University Affairs – Justin Yang vs. Matt Parsons.  1-2 members of this blog are part of the Fraternity System (cough BETA cough) so I don’t know as of yet where we’ll lean here, but this blog as a whole also has some sort of cyber crush on Justin Yang.  I don’t know who Jennifer Wang is.  The issues here will be experience, intelligence, and clarity – who will convey all of these traits?  Yang so far has the upper-hand but Parsons has the opportunity to showcase his.

VP Finance – From my knowledge, FOXTROT endorsed the Invisible Man over Elin Tayyar last year.  Will he be overshadowed by us once again this year?  Time will tell, but at the moment, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that his budget was damn good.  He cut a lot of useless things in spite of the immense pressure from several economically non-savvy AMS representatives.  His competitor is Arash Ehteshami, who, to some accounts from my friends in Arts, is the current AUS VP Internal and is heavily involved with MUG-related activities.  We’d like to see Arash’s financial savvy and credentials in the upcoming campaign.

BOG and Senate thoughts come soon.

SAUDER IS DYNAMITE!

A QUICK RUN-THROUGH OF PRESIDENTIAL COOPERATION

The following presidents undergraduate societies have added FOXTROT UBC on Facebook:

Ryan Trasolini & Brian Platt (Arts – we have no idea what the hell is going on with the AUS once again. One day one guy is president, the next the other guy is.)

Sumedha Sharma (Science – SUS will be good again this coming school year.)

The following presidents have DECLINED Foxtrot UBC on Facebook:

Connor McGauley (Commerce – He has not shown any aptitude with student politics. He is ON NOTICE for declining FOXTROT UBC.)

G20 Protests: OUTRAGE, BIASES AND BIJAN

THIS VIDEO SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.  FOXTROTUBC IS OUTRAGED BY ACTIONS OF THESE HOOLIGANS.  (although we do acknowledge that there were indeed peaceful protestors)

We are also very disappointed in cITR news for presenting biased, unfair and one-sided coverage of the protests. Their coverage is blatantly anti-police and is being used to force their point of view onto their listeners.  They even went so far as to BLAME POLICE for the cars that were torched by the cowards!

@torontopolice left junk cars in streets to be torched by agents provocateurs. If true, very very worrisome. #g20report#g20

WHATS MORE WORRISOME IS THAT STUDENTS ARE PAYING FOR GARBAGE COVERAGE LIKE THIS!!!!

FOXTROTUBC URGES STUDENTS TO STAND UP AGAINST THIS BY EMAILING AMS PRESIDENT – president[at]bijan.ca TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS.  LET HIM KNOW THAT WE’RE TIRED OF FUNDING THE  cITR’s LEFT WING AGENDA!

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the toronto police department for taking time away from their families to keep the streets of Toronto safe on Sunday after the chaos on Saturday.  Much of what was done was unfortunately necessary to avoid the destruction of businesses, homes and public property and to keep the general public safe.  The criminals (like those in the video above) NEED TO BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE, THROWN IN JAIL AND/OR DEPORTED TO CUBA.

[BREAKING] CHU RETORTS

Tim Chu has finally responded after FOXTROT UBC asked him for an interview for the 300th time. Tim’s interview will be completed in due course.

About time, Mr. Chu
